We praise God for providing humanity a way to be free from darkness through Christ Jesus. Our Redeemer is strong, and darkness cannot comprehend Him.

A person who has been released from jail needs to be reintegrated into society. Similarly, the Bible describes how someone who has been freed from sin should shape their life to avoid spiritual death.

One who has escaped the devil’s hold in darkness has a few instructions to help navigate and stay strong on the path of freedom and light.

1. Do not go back to Egypt

When God rescued Israel from the strong hand of Pharaoh and the Egyptians, He cautioned them never to return the way they had come for any reason, whether good or bad.

But why would Israel ever want to return to Egypt? If we examine their journey closely, we can see that they indeed attempted to go back to Egypt during times of trial, doubts, and challenging seasons.

The way of light is also perilous, filled with attacks and opposition, and can be challenging. Rough seasons can also arise. For this, many have considered aligning themselves with Satan instead of fighting strongly and hoping in the Lord.

The issue to consider is that one who has escaped darkness shows unworthiness to Satan, while one who has returned to Satan shows unworthiness to Christ.

For we know that Satan’s greatest hope is for our souls to join him in his eternal torment. He even wishes for his agents to share in this fate, which is why he urges them to commit evil acts—this strengthens their condemnation to hell.

So if Satan cannot trust a returnee, he would prefer him dead upon his return to hasten his eternal damnation.

Such a person has also demonstrated that he is unworthy of the kingdom of God. If he returns to darkness and its deeds, God cannot save him. He has proven himself to be a traitor.

But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” – Luke 9:62

My mother spoke of people she once knew who were considered children of God. They had a time in their lives when they chose to explore the world and experience its offerings.

They weren’t driven by temptation; they simply wanted to sample the pleasures of life. Some of them believed they would return after enjoying the world’s delights.

Unbeknownst to them, they crucified the Son of Man a second time. To this day, they remain enslaved to sin and the world, and they are yet to return.

There is a difference between someone who is tempted and deceived and loses their faith, and someone who has known the truth, experienced the power of the kingdom, and recognised Jesus as the true Saviour, yet still chooses to turn away and conform to the world. It is difficult for such a person to return.

God would never raise another Moses if Israel chose to return, so He cautioned them never to go back to Egypt. Similarly, I urge those who have been saved from darkness not to disappoint the Master by willingly turning back to Satan. This is a form of self-damnation.

2. Be strong and fight the good fight

The world is a battlefield between light and dark forces. The more light or darkness one possesses, the more involved they become in the fight, and the safer they are from being converted.

Safety from conversion to darkness is at the war front. Safety from the darts of Satan is also at the battleground. That is where the King leads his army. While we may face stronger and fiercer assaults, those who choose to stay back become easier victims of the enemy’s tactics and traps.

Jesus assures us that we will face trouble and be hated by many. Persecutions may arise; trials will come. Since we agree that retreating to Egypt is not an option, we must be strong and fight on the side of God and the people of light.

Also, be aware that Satan’s forces will do everything they can to track you down in an effort to conceal their actions. You must be prepared to stand strong and continue fighting. If God chooses to intervene, He can empower you to be resilient in this struggle.

3. Build strong Christian spirituality in the light

It is very difficult to convert or influence a highly spiritual Christian. Yes! Being strong makes your battle more intense, but it makes bringing someone back to Satan extremely hard.

With strong spirituality, what easily besets many unto darkness is merely a joke to us. Even food that is enchanted doesn’t harm us like it does others. However, our battles are significant, and we are determined to remain on God’s side until our fight is complete, even in death.

Now that you have been set free from darkness, it is necessary to begin building a robust, strong Christian spirituality by giving quality time to prayer and the study of the scriptures.

If you want to grow, read your Bible and pray every day. Add many fastings in your quest for a tall spiritual stature. And with attention given to these things, in three years, you could become too strong and heavily endowed to resist Satan.

4. Look away from weak, unserious and lukewarm Believers

Iron sharpens iron indeed. But in the Church today are many woods. Many pastors are smoky, many members are light in spirituality. Do not model them.

Look out for firebrand Christian churches; seek believers who show significant stature in Christ. Pray to meet those who are truly for Christ, for many are pretenders, wolves in sheep clothing looking for whom to prey on. And when you find the right people, copy them.

5. Expose their works

Darkness survives on secrecy. The Bible encourages us to expose them. That way, we become useful to the God who broke us out, and we can save others and edify the church.

What better way to say bye to Satan and make yourself abhorrent to him than by exposing his secret things.

Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Ephesians 5:11

6. Help others come out, save others

When the Apostle Paul was saved, he dedicated himself to helping his fellow Jews. After the man possessed by a legion of demons was delivered, he began to share his testimony about what Jesus had done for him. As a result, the people who had once rejected Jesus welcomed Him during His next visit.

When Andrew met Jesus, he told Peter about it. When Philip encountered the Messiah, he eagerly sought out his brother Nathaniel, saying, “We have found the Messiah.” The three lepers did not keep the good news to themselves; they went out to share it and save their people from great hunger and suffering.

God saves us so that we can help save others. He frees us from darkness so that we can help set others free. Let us not be like some believers today who are selfish and lack love, choosing not to reach out to those who are captives of Satan.

Now that you are free from darkness, help and save others. Show them the light you have found in Christ Jesus.

7. Arise and Shine!

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. Isaiah 60:1
